Shipping, Returns, and Privacy Policy
Shipping and Privacy Policy
Last Updated: June 2026
This policy applies to HP Woodworking (referred to as "I", "my", or "the business") and explains how I handle your orders, returns, and personal data when you visit this website, shop in my online store, or subscribe to my newsletter. For the purposes of UK data protection laws, I am the data controller of your personal information.
1. Contact Details
Trading Name: HP Woodworking
Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Contact Email: info@hpwoodworking.co.uk
Click & Collect: Order collection is securely coordinated and picked up via our partner local craft shop in Handsworth, Sheffield, S13.
2. Personalised and Custom-Built Items (Strictly Exempt from Returns)
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations, goods made to a customer’s specifications or clearly personalised are completely exempt from standard 14-day cancellation and return rights.
Engraved Items: Any item that you choose to have custom-engraved cannot be cancelled, refunded, or returned once production has started.
Bespoke / Custom Builds: Any piece built specifically to your requested dimensions, timber combinations, or design requirements is entirely non-refundable.
Please double-check all spelling, dates, and dimensions before finalising your order, as I cannot offer alterations or refunds for customer entry errors.
3. Standard (Non-Engraved) Items
If you purchase a standard, non-engraved item directly from the shop catalogue, you have the right to change your mind:
You must notify me via email within 14 days of delivery to request a return.
You then have a further 14 days to safely return the item.
Return Shipping: The customer is responsible for return postage costs. Items must be returned unused, undamaged, and in their original packaging.
4. Faulty or Damaged Goods
Wood is a natural material, and variations in grain, knots, and colour are natural characteristics of handcrafted timber, not faults. However, if your item arrives genuinely damaged in transit or faulty:
Please email me within 30 days of delivery with photographic evidence of the damage.
I will gladly arrange a repair, a replacement, or a full refund (including return postage costs) for any verified fault.
5. Information Collected Automatically
Because this website is hosted by Squarespace and uses Google Analytics, certain information about your visit is collected automatically when you land on the site to help me understand how visitors interact with my pages. This data includes:
Information about your browser, network, and device.
The web pages you visited immediately prior to coming to this website.
Your IP address and general geographic location.
Pages viewed, links clicked, scrolling behaviour, and timestamps.
6. Information You Voluntarily Provide
I collect personal information that you explicitly submit through the website. This includes:
Customer Orders & Checkout: When you buy a handcrafted item from my store, I collect your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, phone number, and order history.
Payment Processing: Your transactions are securely handled directly through Squarespace Payments (which processes Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, and other major mobile wallets). I never see or store your credit or debit card details on my systems.
Newsletter Sign-ups: If you choose to subscribe to my newsletter or updates, I collect your email address and name. I will only email you if you have given me explicit, affirmative consent to do so.
Contact Forms: Your name, email address, and any specific details, dimensions, or text you share regarding a custom woodworking request.
7. Lawful Basis for Processing Data
Under the UK GDPR, I only process your data using the following legal grounds:
Contractual Necessity: To process your payment, fulfil your order, and arrange delivery or pickup of your items.
Consent: When you explicitly opt-in to receive my email newsletter or accept non-essential tracking cookies. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
Legitimate Interests: To improve my web design, analyse store performance via Google Analytics, and respond to your direct messages.
8. How Your Data is Shared
I do not sell your personal data. I only share your information with trusted third-party service providers necessary to run my shop and deliver your items, specifically Squarespace (website hosting and email marketing), Squarespace Payments (secure transaction processing), Google Analytics (traffic analysis), and courier services such as Royal Mail to deliver your orders.
Because Squarespace and Google are US-based companies, your data may be transferred to and stored in the United States. These platforms protect your data in strict compliance with UK data protection standards.
9. Cookies and Tracking
This website uses cookies (small text files dropped onto your device) to power the online store and analytics.
Functional Cookies: These are strictly necessary for the Squarespace store to work (for example, holding items in your shopping cart while you browse).
Analytics Cookies: Used by Google Analytics to help me see which products are popular. These are only active if you agree to them via the website cookie banner.
10. Data Retention and Your Rights
I only keep your personal information for as long as necessary to manage your orders, answer your queries, or comply with UK tax laws (HM Revenue & Customs requires financial records of sales transactions to be kept for 6 years).
You have the right to request a copy of the data I hold about you, ask me to correct inaccurate data, or ask me to delete your personal information (subject to legal financial retention limits). To exercise your rights, please contact me via email. If you are unhappy with how I handle your data, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
